O Gabinete da Area de Sines, criado pelo Decreto-Lei n 270/71, de 19 de Junho, constitui um instituto publico e, como tal, esta isento dos emolumentos e selos relativos aos actos notariais e de registo predial (artigo 6 do Decreto-Lei n 31156, de 3 de Março de 1941).
