Welcoming Remarks

To be the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Portugal is to make a commitment to the citizens who expect the fulfilment of a public service that is essentially characterized by the defense and preservation of the democratic rule of law, of legality, of the autonomy of the Public Prosecution Service, as well as of the need to enforce the law fairly and impartially.

To hold the office of Prosecutor General is a great honor for me and represents yet another challenge that I shall seek to fulfil with humility, commitment, dedication and courage, always aiming at ensuring the execution of the powers conferred on the Prosecutor General by law.

It is therefore essential to mobilize and encourage the members of the Public Prosecution Service to work as a team whenever, given the complexity of the cases, such teamwork is necessary or determined by their hierarchical superior.

It is equally important to mobilize all those who collaborate with the Public Prosecution Service, given that justice is not achieved with a single individual, but with the collaboration and support of all those who are part of the judicial system and who believe that it is possible to build a more evolved society where the values of equality, of the defense of human values and of transparency are the driving force behind the idea of justice.
