Portugal representative at EUROJUST, his deputy and assistant

Eurojust is a European Union Agency for Criminal Judicial Cooperation, created by Regulation (EU) 2018/1727, of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 14 November 2018.

Portugal is represented at EUROJUST by a national member, a position that is held by a Public Prosecution Service magistrate. The Prosecutor General proposes three magistrates and one is appointed by order of the Government members responsible for foreign affairs and justice (article 2(1) of Law 36/2003, of 22 August and 13(1)(f)) of the SPPS).

The national member is assisted by one or more deputies and one or more assistants, according to their needs, positions held by Public Prosecution Service magistrates, appointed by order of the Government members responsible for foreign affairs and justice, upon proposal of the national member (Article 2(3) and 3(2) of Law 36/2003 of 22 August and 13(1)(f)) of the SPPS).

The national member of EUROJUST, his deputies and his assistants in the exercise of their powers provided for in articles 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 9a, 9b, 10 and 11 of Law 36/2003 of 22 August depend directly on the Prosecutor General (article 4(1) of Law 36/2003 of 22 August).

The respective mandates are performed on temporary assignment and last four years, renewable for identical periods (article 3(3) of Law 36/2003, of 22 August).
