Central Department of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution

The Central Department of Criminal Investigation and Prosecution/CDCIP («DCIAP»)  is a body entrusted with the coordination and the direction of the investigation and with the prevention of violent, highly organised or particularly complex crime [article 46(1) of the Statute of the Public Prosecution Service/SPPS).

The CDCIP is led by a deputy prosecutor general on temporary assignment and upon proposal of the Prosecutor General of the Republic (article 127 of the SPPS).

District prosecutors are also assigned to the CDCIP [article 46(2) of the SPPS; Ministerial Order No. 328/2006 of 06.04.2006] following recruitment pursuant to article 123(1) of the SPPS.

The CDCIP is granted technical and administrative support by justice officials or by officials pertaining to the criminal police bodies’ staff (article 25 of Decree-Law No. 333/99 of 20 August 1999).

Its powers are laid down in article 47 of the SPPS.
