Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Offices

The Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Offices are part of the prosecution offices located in the administrative and tax courts of the respective territorial area (article 88(2) of the Statute of the Public Prosecution Service/SPPS.

There are 4 Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Offices:

— The Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Office of the Center, which includes Coimbra (seat), Castelo Branco, Leiria and Viseu;

— The Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Office of the South, which includes Beja and Loulé (seat);

— The Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Office of Lisboa, which includes Lisboa (seat), Almada, Funchal, Ponta Delgada and Sintra;

— The Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Office of the North, which includes Porto (seat), Aveiro, Braga, Mirandela and Penafiel.

The Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Offices are superintended by the Regional Deputy Prosecutors General’s Offices in whose geographical area they belong.

The Administrative and Tax Sate Prosecutor’s Offices are coordinated by a deputy prosecutor general in office, who is appointed by the High Council of the Public Prosecution Service, and holds his or her office on temporary assignment (articles 88(3) and 161 SPPS). The coordinating magistrate ensures the direction of two Administrative and Tax State Prosecutor’s Offices, in aggregate regime (article 161(2) SPPS).
